Vox Pop on rough edit

This is our Vox Pop for our rough edit (first cut) of our music promo. The reason for doing this Vox Pop was to receive feedback on our first edit and to obtain improvements from a number of different people point of view to help us improve the music promo to help us achieve the best music promo we could possibly produce. We took into consideration what our audience had to say and made the required changes to ensure we pleased our audience.

Did you enjoy our music video?

Luke - 'Yeah I really enjoyed it, it kept me interested throughout the whole music video'

George - 'Yes'

Callum - 'Yeah I did enjoy the music video'

From this question we understood that we'd created a good music promo for our first rough edit and people liked it and we knew we were on the right tracks for achieving a good grade.

Did you understand our narrative? Was it clear?

Luke - 'Yes I understood the narrative between the businessman and the gorilla, I understood that'

George - 'Yeah I got the narrative between the businessman and gorilla it was quite clear what was going on. They switched lives'

Callum - 'I did understand the narrative of how the gorilla and busniessmans lives were contrasting with each other'

This question helped us again understand how far we had come and that we had done enough shooting and editing was going well that our narrative was well on it's way to looking impressive.

What would you say we did well in our music video?

Luke - 'I think it was very unique and interesting, something never seen before which kept it engaging'

George - 'I like the editing and the cutting to the beat was good'

Callum - 'I really liked how unique the narrative was'

This next question helped us understand what we had done well and what we could less focus on and turn our focus to other things that needed tweaking to get a solid grade.

What would you recommend we improve?

Luke - 'More cutting to the beat as it would boost your grade even higher'

George - 'Maybe even more cutting to the beat'

Callum - 'Narrative could be a little more clearer so other audiences can understand what's going on'

This would be our most important question, this is asking our audience for help and advice to achieve higher grades and make the music promo look as professional as it possibly can. What we took from this question was that we needed to work harder at the cutting to the beat and include more cuts to the beat and also tweak the narrative a little more to really help boost our grade higher. We will act upon this advice and ensure they have been worked upon before releasing our final and finished production.

Poll on ancillary poster ideas

We asked a total of 15 different individuals in order to get a conclusive result on which poster design would be most effective in attracting our specific target audience. We had used this poll and targeted our main audience of mid teens to late 20 year olds. From the result shown, the least liked idea was the first design including a three image merge. The runners up from the top picked choice was the middle design, including the three main individuals in the promo together but edited so they are overlapping. The most liked idea was the third sketch shown above, with a total of 7 out 15 people choosing this idea. The design included the three main characters standing side by side in a scenic area. Being the most liked idea, we will be using this as a base in creating the final poster.

Animals cutting to the beat demo

This was our demo of cutting to the beat and how we would try and incorporate that within our music promo. This is not actual footage we used within our final production it was just a draft of how to cut to the beat to our chosen song.

Poll on Ancillary ideas

This is a poll we did too see which idea we should develop. From the results we saw that the audience chose design 1 as 53% of the people we asked said it would be best to develop. This has allowed us to concentrate more of our time on idea 1 rather than the other 2.

Ancillary ideas

Ancillary ideas

Digipak ideas:

Our first idea consists of photo of the three people involved in the music promo with the title on top, this will be the first panel. The two panels besides that will be of the two different setting we will be filming in. It will be a photo of these settings. Within the digipak, the three panels will consist of each of the characters, one panel will consist of information about the artist.

Our second idea includes an overlaid image of all three individuals, with the title on top. The other two panels besides that is quite similar to our first idea of having the setting we will be filming in, however it will have within it, the character of the monkey running by in one, and the other will having the business man running by the woods. The middle top panel will just be a scenic shot. The other two panels on top will have specific information: the left panel will have the lyrics, while the far right panel will have information about the artist, quite similar to the first idea.

Finally, our final idea consists of the front cover having the vocalist with the title on top, he will be standing in a bleak landscape to dramatize the shot. The other two panels will form one picture of a landscape. The top middle panel will have the monkey and the business man side by side. The left and right panels will have similar information as said in our second idea.

Magazine ideas:

The first idea we thought of was splitting the frame into 5 panels, two of which will contain certain information as shown by the rough draft. The other panels will contain snippets of each individual: the monkey, the vocalist and the business man, this will be joined together to form as one face.

Our second idea is more simplistic. We will take photos of the monkey, the vocalist and the business man and overlay them on Photoshop. This will then be placed on top of a scenic background. The title will be on the top, while extra information will be below the magazine poster. The vocalist will be the person in front.

Our final idea, has an image of the three people shown on the promo standing by a fire, creating a silhouette. The middle of the frame will be lit by the fire, while the other edge dark. The main title will be on top, with some editing on Photoshop to edit the Illumination.

The designs will of course consist of the conventions associated with music performance posters and digipaks such as the name of the artist, the song title, a main image of the artist, logo of the record label, reviews, venues etc.
