The music promos first came onto the scene in the 1960’s due to the Beatles and their music video release of ‘A hard day’s night’ and this promo was very simple but was the stepping stones for the promos that followed for other bands because they used close ups of the band and also incorporated live footage and a narrative which is commonly used in music videos today.
After the Beatles promo, the world of using music promos really took off with most bands/artist creating and spending time on music promos to advertise their latest albums/singles. A famous promo coming in the mid 70’s that is called Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. An improvement in technology aided the special effects and unique side to the music promos in the 1970s. Also by this time the hit TV show ‘Top Of The Pops’ was famous for advertising the latest music and became a massive success.
Another advancement in the next decade was the release of the still popular TV channel MTV (Music Television). The whole point of MTV was to play music promos on TV for audiences to watch and discover new bands/artist and songs. The music promos by the 1980’s were extremely popular for bands/artist for generating income and raising popularity. The first ever music promo to be shown on MTV was ‘Video killed the radio star’ by The Buggles.
